11.10.2005Yes, the IT job market is coming back - w00t!When a certain Fairy can get 11 interviews in one week and 6 in the next (we're talking face-to-faces, not counting go-sees and phone screens), yeah - you can believe this. It's back. Not quite to where it used to be, but it's getting there. Salaries are still a bit on the lower side, but come next spring I think we'll see the market substantially corrected. I can't wait... <malicious evil smirk of satisfaction> 11.07.2005Leaving? An exit interview won't benefit you much"Exit interviews are usually done for employees who voluntarily leave their positions. Usually the interview is with the human resources representative to gather information to improve working conditions and retain employees. Exit interviews generally do not help you very much, but rather they provide feedback to employers to make things better in the workplace. It's questionable how useful they really are. A better time to provide feedback is while an employee is engaged and committed to his job rather than when he is walking out the door. Here are some things to think about: 1) As a departing employee, will you benefit from an exit interview? 2) Would the interview be private? 3) Is the reason you are leaving personal or business? 4) Will human resources really use your improvement recommendations? 5) Could it possibly ruin a positive reference?" - from The Career News Here at jobfairy.com, our policy is never to grant exit interviews. Ever. There's no point. Will it improve your working conditions? No, you're leaving. Will the information be kept private? Of course not, was anything else ever kept confidential when you were there? I didn't think so. Will it get back to your soon-to-be-former boss? Gee, do ya think??? Of course it will. HR weenies *live* for that kind of thing. How delicious to be able to spread unpleasant news about other people, all under the guise of "helping" them. You're leaving 'cause it sucks. If it didn't suck, you wouldn't be leaving. There's no nice way to tell them that, plus they don't want to hear that their company sucks anyway. If they were the kind of people that could be objective enough to make changes that are needed, this wouldn't be the kind of place that sucked so much you'd had to go to all the trouble to find another job. No, they will not implement any of your recommendations. I can guarantee you that. Plus anything you say can and will be used against you. Rant and rave, and your departure will be accompanied by security guards, trust me. Could it ruin a reference? Well, only if you're dumb enough to let your future employers contact your old one. Make sure your references are people that you're 1000% sure are going to say only positive things about you all the time. You'll do the same for them when it's their time. Exit interviews... sheesh! What a colossal waste of time. Don't you have something - anything - better to do? I know I do.
