The truth is out there... some assembly required.

an excerpt from a spammerI get stuff like this all the time. They've taken to spamming people in order to get them to sign up for their $39.95 mass emailing to the "hidden" market of recruiters. There's just enough truth in them that people might fall for it. Yes, in Colorado, a lot of the jobs are filled through staffing or contract agencies. Yes, they do know about positions that are either not advertised or not posted for long. Or the job ad might be made to seem generic so that another agency can't figure out who their client is. And it's true that they want to fill positions with candidates as quickly as possible. They don't really care from where they get them. It's not true that agencies won't post a job on a board in fear that other agencies will steal a client from them. Most position ads are written in such a way that they don't reveal the client company or even the industry, often enough. In fact, the truth is that the client company often contacts a handful of agencies, each one listing the position on their favorite boards; if you make the rounds of the most popular boards, you can assume that some positions which look like duplicates but which have contact information for different agencies are indeed for the same client company. The only surefire way you can "tap into" this "huge hidden market" is to post your resume on the job boards, which can be done for free. The resume template we here at jobfairy.com suggest you use for maximum impact is free, and the instructions are free, the list of over 500 job sites is free, and oh, yeah - the job sites are all free too. Notice a theme here? It shouldn't cost you, the job seeker, to look for work. You're not in the financial position that a company is when they're looking to add people. Your resources are limited and you may even be out of work. The costs of hiring should be borne by companies, not you. Do yourself a favor, and next time you get one of these solicitations to spend your hard earned money on a mass emailing, go out and spend that amount on margaritas and nachos at your favorite Mexican restaurant. That way, if you're determined to blow $40, at least you're not wasting money.  ;>   And you'll have made just as much impact on recruiters this way as you would have tossing the money at the spammers.

It's that time of year again

When a young Fairy's thoughts turn to... MONEY. Yeah, that's right. I have a feeling I'm not being paid enough again. And I don't LIKE that feeling. So I may just have to kick over the traces at this new job I love so much. Of course, when it's convenient for ME.

Is the job market improving?

Well, some people seem to think so.
