They had all of two WebMethods opening on their site when I looked today. So I guess that's technically correct; two is a number. With all the layoffs over the past couple of years, I wonder how it is they cannot find enough people with these skills to fill these two positions? However, it's not a free training program if you have to pay fees for it up front and then if you get an assignment through them and if you are able to hang onto it for three months or more then you might possibly get your fee refunded. That really doesn't sound like free to me. Plus, they're in Illinois. The two openings I saw on their site were in Georgia and Texas. There is no mention of reimbursement of airfare, hotel, or other expenses. This sets off all of our Fairy Alarms because there are a whole lot of maybes, and not a whole lot of specifics. To start with, how much this costs...? We are wary of many promises and lots of exclamation points. This is not how recruiters with actual jobs to fill go about their business. Neither is this how technical training companies advertise their available courses. Caveat emptor.
When in Rome...
What are the best job boards? Weddle's has a list of the best job boards for 2003. However, the ones that the recruiters like best are not necessarily the ones that the job seekers like best. Here's a hint - prioritize like the recruiters do. Whatever their favorite boards are, apply to those first, update your resume on those first, and optimize your resume for display on those boards first. HR professionals are generally not the most technically savvy members of an organization; these boards (their favorites) tend to be the easiest (or cheapest) to use. So play to that.
I'm Impressed. There's a quote we here at The Job Fairy have always lived by - "Don't let a lack of qualifications stop you from pursuing your career goals. I was never qualified for any of the positions I achieved." - Rep. Sonny Bono (R - CA). Of course, it's led to generous salaries, unbelievable perks, and a lifestyle beyond our wildest dreams... but what does this mantra do for others? Apparently, you can get hired without any qualifications whatsoever. Or you can get hired for lots of money without any qualifications whatsoever! And a tip of the Fairy Wand to Tracy Baker, Arapahoe Country Clerk and Recorder - way to go beating those criminal charges! It warms the Fairy Heart when we see someone avoid getting pink-slipped. ;)
