So if you've been unemployed for a while, you get desperate. And the scum out there smell opportunity. Or if you're freshly laid off, with a lump sum of money in your hand, you might as well paint a target on your forehead if you're not careful. Here are some links to an assortment of job scams, such as career marketing, "executive" career search, or work at home offers. Considering some of the things going on out there these days, I wouldn't tell a potential employer or recruiter or anyone that I was laid off or unemployed...
How to judge the effectiveness of a recruiter (from Ask the Headhunter).
Why pay for this?
- A collection of unfocused general platitudes about searching for a job (only $19.85 through their site... a $289.85 value!)
- Resume blasting services - anywhere from $49 to $89 and up!
- Resume, cover letter writing, and career marketing services - entry level starts at (only) $250
- Resume critiquing services that are initially free but then try to upsell you on a resume package that costs between $250 - $950
You get charged so much, but receive so little...
Petty, but gratifying.
