Survey: IT Job Market May Perk Up

Is It Time to Move On?

The Usual In-Box Debris

Dear XXX:

I am not able to relocate at this time, or at any future time. This is clearly stated in my profile on monster.com. And even if I were, my qualifications should be enough for any company; I am a well-known ------ ------, with a successful track record of on-time/on-budget deployments and continuous employment. The job market is having a bit of a downturn, for sure, but it could never become so difficult that I would submit to the indignity of a handwriting analysis; spurious "science" at best - and certainly of dubious value. See (http://www.ntskeptics.org/1989/1989mayjune/mayjune1989.htm#pseudoscience) or (http://skepdic.com/graphol.html ). If you are spending your company's money on this, it's a waste. Furthermore, graphology bears little resemblance to the Myers-Briggs Inventory, which IS firmly rooted in the science of psychology. For the record, I am an ENTJ, which would explain my assertive, factual, and methodical response.

I'm not trying to flame you with this email. I want you to be successful, because recruiters who can place (lots of) people are a geek like me's best friend. The faxed resumes/responses thing is a real turn off - faxing is very last century and considered a red flag among techies. If your potential employer can't handle Word documents and e-mail attachments, what are you going to have to work with once you arrive at the client site? Is IT going to hand you a Windows 95 box your first day there? One last bit of advice as to your AOL address; this is another SERIOUS red flag among techies. Why do you not have an email address with your company's domain? Generally, I do not respond to such requests, because they can be scams and often are. At the very least, a reputable and successful agency has its own e-mail server. But I digress.

Good luck filling the position (you're going to need it).

Regards,

Shocking Pink
