They're catching on. It's about time.

My favorites are the recruiters who say "in order that I do not call on people you are already interviewing with, give me the names of all the companies you are currently pursuing". Do not fall for this trick. They will take that information and call the companies and attempt to sell them their other candidates. Scum!!!!!!!!"
Exactly.

[...]That's typical. I've had three recruiters in the last two months call me, not because they had any jobs, but because they ran a search for a particular company and found that I'd worked there as a contractor. All of them were trying to get me to give them contact information for "inside" managers, because all of the phone calls normally stopped at the bowheads at HR, and one of them made hangup calls for three weeks because I wouldn't give him my old supervisor's name and phone number.
(This, by the way, is why you have to be really careful about giving out references these days to recruiters who swear that they can't submit you without references. The jobs don't exist: they're just getting names of people who might be hiring and nagging them about hiring their people. My last supervisor hasn't had any work in her company for six months, and yet she's getting flooded with phone calls from recruiters who asked former employees for references. Recruiters are shit wrapped in human skin, and that's being nice.)"
Other people often say it better than I ever could.
