"Tech pay at decade low" (????)

"By Reuters
April 29, 2002, 4:45 PM PT

Never mind that information technology workers who still have jobs are making a lot less from stock options; their base salaries and bonuses are also falling sharply, a new survey released Monday shows."
gee, that sure doesn't seem to apply to executive earnings...! on a much happier note, it doesn't much apply to job fairies either. :)

"Information technology managers should see an average 8 percent decline in total compensation this year, while rank-and-file IT workers should expect their pay to fall by 11 percent, according to a study by high-tech trade publication Information Week."
funny - that hasn't happened to any of us... in fact, most of us have reported gains in the 10% range, on average!

"The study found that IT managers earn a median base salary of $83,000 a year, while IT staffers make $61,000. The lower salaries many of them are seeing this year represents the first such drop in a decade, according to the magazine, which surveyed more than 10,000 technology employees."
ummm... none of are that poorly compensated. in fact, i am not sure any of us would even settle for such paltry wages!

"Bonuses are falling even more than salaries. Information Week said managers who last year got a median bonus of $17,000 will see bonuses of about $6,000 this year. Median bonuses for staffers should fall from $11,000 to $2,000."
none of us rely on bonuses. we treat 'em as found money. a good job fairy demands cold hard cash up front, like a hooker. keep your mind on the money and the job takes care of itself.

"The study also found some other changes for the worse in the IT workplace. It said workers generally had more stress and lower morale."
well, that's a DUH. if the employers of the world still had gobs of money, but you were even less assured of getting the dribble that you used to, wouldn't you feel terrible? thank goodness us fairies aren't fooled by the alleged poor economic conditions or constrained by rules of 'fair play'. when they start to play fair, we will too. that ain't gonna happen.

the cool part is that none of us have had to take pay cuts - in fact, most of us have gotten raises and job offers at our first choice of employer. and we're getting less calls from looky-loo recruiters who don't have a job for us and just wanna yack about where we've been interviewing. and most of the dishonest recruiters have gone out of business anyway. please - let's have MORE economic downturns like this! bring it f***ing on!
