must be something that's going around...
i got a call from the fairy of utter goodness and light this morning - seems she got laid off on thursday. she used to work for a recruiting company. so many of them have gone by the wayside - only the biggest are left, plus reputable independents. but she's not going that route. she's been taking real estate courses, and got her license only a couple of days before the axe fell. now, that's why she's a job fairy! she smelled something from a long way off. she prepared to switch into another sector of the market - one not as affected by the IT fallout. she took classes long before she "needed" to. and she's been working with a real estate broker for months.
of course, she was as shocked as any of us would be at layoff time. she had a sense that it was coming, but it was still something of a surprise. you have to be gotten rid of as frequently as me before you develop those callouses! but she was ultimately relieved, after all was said and done...!
3.20.2002"Research is clear: The way to drive creatures crazy -- from laboratory mice to executives and everything in between -- is to give them tasks without control over the results and no way to prepare for what might happen to them. That's why it's so critical to take back some control over your life. Traditionally, more than 50 percent of small businesses fail. But when new ventures are carefully incubated, more than 85 percent survive. There's no reason why careful attention to planning and strategy couldn't get similar results for you. by Barbara Reinhold on editorial.careers.msn.com"
Sounds like a mandate to me!
