2.24.2002getting some of the kinks worked out...
so far the site redesign is going ok. i'm to the point where i am testing on various browsers and i have the content and navigation more or less as it's going to be. there's just a little bit of fine tuning that has to go on. so i was testing the various versions of internet exploder and netscrape and opera, and it completely crapped under netscape 4.7!!! i was irked, until i figured out that i had created the .css with topstyle lite, and that is what had made the earlier version of netscape choke. i grabbed the cascading style sheet from the cache, opened it with frontpage (horribile dictu), converted it to pure ascii text, saved it back and no more problems. oooof da! that does it; as soon as i get home that program is toast. i'm glad i never bought it.
i fixed the blogger format - it fits very nicely into the inline frames. it's all sized for 1024 x 768, but looks well at higher resolutions too.
i get the funniest feedback about the pink color schema. on the one hand, i get feedback even from girls that "it's too pink". on the other hand, people tell me all the time that the pink is "characteristic" and it's a signature element of the site. they say it looks like mary kay pinks. those that are more knowledgeable identify it correctly as barbie pinks. i did offer to change the color palette to classy-and-subdued taupes and beiges, but that was considered "too boring". that's the beauty of CSS - if people really hate it, all i have to do is change the main sheet and scrollbar controls, and the site has a whole new look!
the pink is supposed to make women feel more confortable with using the site, to make the topics more accessible, and to make them feel a sense of ownership over the material which they might not have had before. hopefully, it'll work!
